Stainless steel flap valves
Flap valves prevent water from rivers, lakes, or other receiving waters from entering pipelines, sewer networks, and structures. They open automatically when water drains out and close automatically in the event of backflow.
Typical areas of application include water outlets, rainwater systems, pumping stations, stormwater retention basins, and other water and wastewater engineering structures. Depending on the installation situation, flap valves are available in round or rectangular designs as well as with various installation types and equipment variants.
- How it works
Mode of operation
Flap valves operate purely mechanically and do not require an external power supply. During drainage, water pressure opens the flap cover automatically. If the water level on the water body side rises or backflow occurs, the flap closes automatically and prevents the water from flowing back.
Due to the vertical arrangement of the flap cover, flap valves open even at low opening pressure. At the same time, deposits and contaminants are reliably flushed out during opening, which supports long-term reliable function.

Key features
- Design according to DIN 19569-4: Flap valves for water and wastewater technology according to DIN 19569-4.
- Replaceable EPDM seal: Other materials such as 1.4404 are available upon request.
- Pressure resistance up to 6 mWC: Designed for 6 m water column as standard. Higher pressure loads are possible upon request.
- Low opening pressure: The vertically arranged flap cover opens even at low water pressure and ensures low backwater in the channel. Further information can be found in the section “Required opening pressure”.
- Stainless steel 1.4301 or 1.4571: Other materials such as 1.4404 are available upon request.
- Round, square and project-specific designs: Flap valves are available in round and square designs as well as in project-specific special dimensions.
- High tightness: The EPDM seal ensures a reliable seal and significantly exceeds the requirements of DIN 19569-4.

Cover designs
Standard cover
The standard version is suitable for the majority of all applications in water and wastewater technology. Due to the vertically arranged flap cover, the flap valve opens at a low opening pressure and closes automatically in the event of backflow.
Pendulum weight
For special installation situations, flap valves are also available with a pendulum weight. Thanks to the adjustable weight position, the opening and closing behavior can be adapted to the hydraulic conditions on site.
Hollow float cover
For special hydraulic requirements, flap valves are also available with a fillable hollow float cover. The buoyancy of the cover can be adjusted to the requirements of the respective installation situation.
Flex flap valves for slope sections
If flap valves are used on inclined embankment sections or outlet structures, a flex flap valve is often the better solution. Due to the flexible EPDM cover, it is much more compact than a classic stainless steel flap valve and adapts to the inclination of the embankment section.
More information on flex flap valves and solutions for embankment sections can be found on our page Flex flap valves for embankment sections.

Required opening pressure
Due to the vertically arranged valve cover, TESACO flap valves open even at low water pressure. The following document, which you can open by clicking the button, shows standard values for the required minimum opening pressure of our standard designs.
Why TESACO?
Immediately available standard sizes
We keep stainless steel flap valves from DN 100 to DN 1000 constantly in stock. Stock items can generally be shipped on the same working day.
Any dimensions and special solutions
In addition to our stock program, we manufacture flap valves in almost any round and rectangular dimensions. We also realize special designs, inclined valve covers, manhole adapters, and project-specific solutions on short notice.
Direct contact partners
During working hours, you will usually reach a competent contact person immediately who understands your project and can answer technical questions directly. Technical clarifications and decisions are made without long coordination processes.
Technical support already in the planning phase
We support you in selecting the suitable flap valve, the appropriate installation method, and the correct cover design. We develop suitable solution proposals based on a sketch, a structural drawing, or just a few technical parameters.
Assembly, maintenance, and spare parts
On request, we take care of assembly work, maintenance, and repairs. Seals and other spare parts are available long-term, so that existing systems can be maintained economically.
Cast iron products
In addition to our stainless steel range, we also have a stock of flap valves, penstocks, and other accessories made of cast iron. These products come from earlier ranges and are available while current stocks last.
Do you have any questions or would you like a quote?
We would be happy to assist you in selecting the appropriate flap valve, the suitable installation type, and the correct cover design for your application.
Often, a sketch, a photo, a structural drawing, or a tender text is sufficient to work out a suitable solution and prepare a quote. We are also happy to assist you with special dimensions, rectangular designs, or unique installation situations.
Technical clarifications, installation drawings, quotes, and order confirmations are usually sent to you on the same working day. Stock items from our standard range can often be dispatched on the same working day.
