Stainless steel penstock
Our stainless steel penstocks are used in sewage treatment plants, pumping stations, storm water overflow basins, and other water and wastewater engineering structures. They are designed for decades of service.
Thanks to the modular TESACO system, the mounting method, actuation, and accessories can be adapted to the specific installation situation. We keep standard sizes in stock in materials 1.4301 and 1.4571 and can often ship them within a week.
- How it works
Operating principle of a penstock
A penstock is used to completely shut off water in water and wastewater engineering structures. The slide gate is opened or closed via a spindle and seals the opening using an all-around EPDM double-lip seal.
Adjustable locking wedges regulate the contact pressure of the slide gate against the seal. This allows the contact pressure to be adjusted all around and readjusted at any time if necessary.

Performance features
- Design according to DIN 19569-4: penstock for water and wastewater engineering according to DIN 19569-4.
- Stainless steel 1.4301 or 1.4571: Other materials such as 1.4404 available upon request.
- Pressure resistance up to 6 mWC: Designed as standard for 6 m water column on the front and back. Higher pressure loads are available upon request.
- Flush invert design: The invert seal is integrated flush into the channel invert. This prevents any disruptive steps or edges where deposits could accumulate.
- Replaceable EPDM seals: The seals are bolted and can be replaced even when installed. It is not necessary to remove the penstock for this purpose.
- Any dimensions and geometries: penstock are available for round and square openings as well as project-specific special shapes. Dimensions, invert design, and geometry are adapted to the respective installation situation.
- High tightness: The EPDM double lip seal ensures very low leakage and significantly undercuts the requirements of DIN 19569-4.
- Downward opening penstock for low installation depths: In addition to the standard version, downward opening penstock are also possible for shallow structure depths and special installation situations.
Actuators
Depending on the installation situation and operating concept, our penstock are available with different actuations. From simple manual operation to automated operation with an electric drive, the design can be adapted to the respective project requirements.

Installation types
TESACO penstock are mainly used on straight concrete walls or in round manholes. Standardized solutions are available for both installation situations.
For round manholes, a suitable manhole adapter is generally used. The penstock and manhole adapter are supplied pre-assembled and sealed at the factory, which significantly reduces the installation effort on site.
In addition, other versions are also possible, for example for flange connections or project-specific installation situations.
