Reference Project Flood Protection Izola (Slovenia)

For a flood protection project in Izola (Slovenia), TESACO supplied a total of six stainless steel penstocks for regulating rainwater and flood runoff. In addition to the penstocks, the project included project-specific designed pedestal stands, operating rods, electric AUMA actuators, as well as complete technical project support. TESACO supported the project together with the customer from the initial planning and technical approvals to delivery and commissioning.

The Project

As part of municipal flood protection, several structures were equipped with electrically operated penstocks. The penstocks allow for controlled regulation of rainwater and flood runoff and help to operate the facilities safely even at high water levels. Since the individual structures differed in terms of size, installation situation, and operating height, each system was designed individually. In addition to the penstocks, pedestal stands and operating rods were adapted to the respective building geometries and coordinated with the on-site steel structures.

The Challenge

Each structure presented different requirements for the installation situation. Penstock sizes, operating heights, and connection details varied from structure to structure. At the same time, all components had to be easily integrated into the on-site steel structure and connected to the existing control technology.

In addition to the valve itself, constructive coordination with all project participants was therefore particularly crucial.

Our Solution

TESACO developed a project-specific solution consisting of penstocks, operating rods, pedestal stands, and electric actuators for each structure. During the planning phase, installation situations were coordinated with the customer and the necessary technical documents were created.

The electric AUMA actuators allow for operation directly on-site as well as integration into the higher-level control system. All components were delivered ready for installation and adapted to the respective building dimensions.

The project involved much more than just supplying the penstocks. TESACO supported the customer with technical developments and project-specific documents as early as the planning phase. These included, among others:

  • Manufacturer declarations
  • Material certificates according to EN 10204
  • Factory acceptance tests
  • Documentation of the electric actuators
  • Operating and maintenance manuals


The technical documentation accompanied the project from planning through production to installation and commissioning, forming the basis for smooth project execution.
