Stainless steel control penstock
Our control penstocks enable precise discharge limitation in wastewater treatment plants, storm overflow tanks, rainwater retention basins, and other water and wastewater engineering structures. An additional sliding rail securely holds the penstock plate against the seal even in intermediate positions, ensuring a permanently defined throttling opening.
- How it works
Functionality of a control penstock
A control penstock limits the flow by a defined reduction of the free cross-section. The penstock plate is manually adjusted to the desired opening width and can be monitored at any time using the standard graduation scale. Analog or digital position indicators are available as an option.
An additional sliding rail holds the penstock plate securely against the seal even at high flow velocities. As a result, the set throttling opening is permanently maintained. In the end position, the EPDM double-lip seal ensures very low leakage.

Determination of the required throttling opening based on nominal diameter, head, and desired discharge rate. Additionally, the corresponding flow characteristic curves for all standard sizes are available.
Installation dimensions
Performance features
- Design according to DIN 19569-4: Control penstock for water and wastewater technology according to DIN 19569-4.
- Stainless steel 1.4301 or 1.4571: Other materials such as 1.4404 available upon request.
- Pressure resistance up to 6 mWC: Designed as standard for 6 m water column on the front and back. Higher pressure loads are available upon request.
- Tightness: The EPDM double lip seal ensures very low leakage when properly installed and significantly falls below the requirements of DIN 19569-4.
- Position indicator: Standard scale on the penstock for visual inspection of the opening degree. Optionally available with an analog or digital position indicator.
- Replaceable seals: The seals are bolted and can be replaced while the unit is installed. Removing the penstock is not necessary for this.
- Throttling function: Additional sliding strip for secure guidance of the penstock plate and a precisely defined throttling opening in any intermediate position.
- Flush sill design: The sill seal is integrated flush into the channel invert. This prevents annoying ridges or edges where deposits can accumulate.
Actuators
Depending on the installation situation and operating concept, our control penstocks are available with different actuators. From simple manual operation to automated operation with electric drive, the design can be adapted to the respective project requirements.

Installation types
TESACO control penstocks are primarily used on straight concrete walls or in round shafts. Standardized solutions are available for both installation situations.
For round shafts, a suitable shaft adapter is generally used. The penstock and shaft adapter are delivered pre-assembled and sealed from the factory, which significantly reduces the on-site installation effort.
In addition, other designs, for example for flange connections or project-specific installation situations, are also possible.
